Today’s Cup 147 was transacted under an early summer sky, at Starbucks, zip code 97071. Since no one queued up behind me, I left the customary $5 for the next unsuspecting patron. The barista cheerfully chatted about the morning and inquired about my pending daily plans. I explained how I was heading off to school, using every non-working hour to read, write, and read some more. Such is the path toward a doctoral degree, a long-awaited professional goal. It’s a path of my own doing, and one I gratefully embrace. I am thankful for the privilege to pursue such a commitment, and hope to do in honor of those who may never have the opportunity. I am no more deserving than countless others who may never see their professional dreams to full fruition. This challenge, this glorious opportunity, is being fulfilled by good fortune; and I am blessed that it has fallen unto my path. I know where the thanks ought to lie, and it is not of this world, for sure.
As I drove off with my soy latte in hand, I smiled with content. It was just one more day toward this simple path toward Fully Caffeinated Generosity and Hope. Until next time.
