Today’s Cup 135 was transacted at Starbucks, zip code 97303. After enjoying a leisurely morning (off from work), I hit the drive thru. I noticed a beautiful car, a jet black sport coupé on my tail. I couldn’t help but notice because the really cool LED driving lights quickly popped up in my rear-view. What made this day noteworthy was that the car was really one of those wow-wee cars that makes your head snap. Even to this average Starbucks-swilling-VW-driving ordinary girl, I know that people swipe hood ornaments off those cars; as they alone are worth more than my monthly coffee budget.
As I ogled the car behind me, and considered its price, I did contemplated whether the driver really needed a free cup of goodwill. But then I came to. I stopped the ridiculous thought and quickly reminded myself it’s not about money. It’s about kindness. It’s also not my job to judge nor place labels or assumptions on others, especially those based on superficial appearance alone. We’re all on the same path, all trying to make a go of it the best way we know how. So here’s to the real worth. The real meaning of kindness. Kindness for the sake of joy. One random act at a time.
So, Mr. Fancy-Really-Expensive-Car-Afficionado, I hope you enjoyed that Skim-One-Equal-Tall-Latte. You really are a cheap date, at only a buck eighty-nine. Perhaps that’s how you were able to save up for that car, who knows? Until tomorrow and until that next cup of Fully Caffeinated Generosity and Hope.
