Today’s Cup 126 was transacted at Starbucks, zip code 97071. Under glorious sunny skies I ordered my usual soy latte. As I spoke into the order screen, I heard a loud voice respond: “Grapefruit soda. Grapefruit, what?” I held back a bit of laughter and clearly repeated: “Grande. Soy. Latte.” I wondered how any experienced barista could be so confused with the typical menu. No biggie, but it was humorous nonetheless. I continued on and paid for the $3.95 coffees for the Honda sedan waiting behind me.
As the barista rang up the orders, seeming a bit frazzled, she apologetically explained some of the behind-the-scenes challenges. One of the espresso machines broke and there were twelve drinks queued up before my measly order. I told her I was happy to wait, with no other Saturday morning agenda, and continued to wait patiently. I hoped that perhaps the free drink for the car behind me made their long wait a little more palatable.
I then drove off with my coffee, with a paper cup stained brown and sticky from some acrobatic handling, while hurriedly running it to the service window, I’m sure. All in all, another successful day in the mission of Fully Caffeinated Generosity and Hope. Until next time.
