Today’s Cup 112 was swiftly transacted at Starbucks, zip code 97303. The grill of the humongous Ford truck behind me nearly swallow up my little VW, but not before ensuring that friendly barista double-swiped the orders. I drove off, thinking of the $7.79 gift for the stranger behind me, and hoped they enjoyed being the recipient of Fully Caffeinated Generosity and Hope.
Continuing down the road, my favorite public radio station was reporting the memorial in Boston, MA., honoring the victims and community of the tragic marathon-related violence on Monday, May 15th. As I sipped my latte, I found it so wrong, and so sad, that 112 days into this project another tragic act of violence should take place. I know my silly little coffee project isn’t fixing anything, but I still pray for peace. I pray for Boston. I pray for humankind. May you be blessed with a cup of kindness in your hand, and blessed by peace and comfort in your own little piece of the world. Good always wins. I believe.
