Cup 79

coffee cupToday’s Cup 79 was transacted at Starbucks, zip code 97303. As the barista handed over my soy latte, I asked her to ring up the patron behind me. It was a humongous order, for one lucky coffee fan, totaling over $13.00. The barista was a bit intrigued over my willingness to pay, and we talked about how sometimes an act of kindness triggers a chain reaction in the drive-thru line. We both agreed that it’s pretty darn cool when that happens. I then explained my daily blog project and her eyes lit up as she asked: “Where can I find your blog?” I happily shared the address and told her she would be among good company with many of her Starbucks colleagues–as a daily coffee blog rock star.

As I drove off, I felt that feeling of simple satisfaction. Once again, I was reminded how much fun it is to buy a stranger’s coffee, as well as enjoy the banter among the lively baristas, each of whom add to the fun of each day’s transaction. So here’s to another round of drinks, with a hefty serving of Fully Caffeinated Generosity and Hope.

    I was that Barista!
Thank you so much for spreading joy and kindness.
When that family pulled up to pay, I couldn’t wait to tell them the thoughtful action that had just taken place by the kind woman in front of them.
Well, The mother was clearly confused when I refused her money and then I realized why. Her 12 yr old daughter in the passenger seat began to translate to her mother what I had said in very fluent sign language. Her mother looked back at me and gave the “thank you” gesture (which I know) and was gleaming with joy. Her daughter was too, knowing that her chocolate chip cookie and strawberries and cream smoothie was a gift out of kindness from a stranger.
Thanks again for your random acts of kindness. You are an inspiration!

@Kristina. Thank you for stopping by and sharing the story. This is what makes the blog project so fun and rewarding. I’m sure we’ll meet again sometime during the next 285 days…so, until my next soy latte (extra hot, please! :-))
