Today’s cup of coffee was transacted at Starbucks, zip code 97303. It was a quick $3.95 Venti coffee for a funny looking SUV in my rear view. As the barista rang up my order and the one for the surprise patron, he asked: “Are you the one with blog?” I smiled and admitted full culpability. He then said: “Yeah, I’m one of the Texas boys [Cup 8] you wrote about…my mom thought it was really great. Keep up the writing.” As I sipped my soy latte, I had to chuckle a bit. That Cup 8 transaction was one of my blog highlights. I still think back to the moment I received a message from that young barista’s mother and family–all of whom live thousands of miles away. Our correspondence via the blog showed the magic of technology; and gave us strangers an opportunity to connect, laugh, and smile together. And the friendly barista, named Mack, was the glue holding the story together. It was just too fun. Really.
So as I drove off, I savored my coffee and the joy of another successful day in the mission of Fully Caffeinated Generosity and Hope. Until tomorrow, for sure.
