Today’s Cup 40 was slam dunked from Starbucks, zip code 97303. Bada-bing-Bada-boom was the sound that transpired as that caffeinated cup went out to the Ford Focus. The order totalled just a mere $4.75, but it made me smile.
As I drove off, sipping my soy latte, I continued to smile. The $4.75 price tag didn’t break the bank by any means, but I thought about the financial committment I’ve made to this coffee-kindness project. Each day’s transaction ranges from a couple of bucks to over $10.00 some days. I reflected on a time, several years back, when I would not have been able to do this. Though years have passed, the memory of losing my job still stings, and I’ve never forgotten that experience. I vividly remember the humbling and crippling fear; of being out of work, and having no money. So today, as I joyfully gave away another cup of kindness, I said a heartfelt prayer of gratitude. My current financial security will continue to garner my humble thanks. Every. Single. Day. It makes me happy to spend a few extra dollars each day doing something special for someone else. And, I love the idea of using a daily cup of coffee as a way to brighten someone’s day.
My morning drive continued, and my coffee tasted more delicious with each thankful sip, as gratitude has a way of doing that. I know most acts of kindness don’t require money, and I know the real gifts are the smiles, kind words, and helping hands that we share. The real trick is to find ways to reach out compassionately, without spending a single penny. But money aside, here’s to another mission of Fully Caffeinated Generosity and Hope. May you be inspired to bless others, and receive the blessings from those around you. Be thankful for that next sip. Until tomorrow.
