Today’s Cup 19 was simply transacted at Starbucks, zip code 97071. As I pulled into the drive-thru I saw the driver of a big rig behind me, today’s unsuspecting free coffee recipient. The vehicle clearly wasn’t a truck, it was a rig. Here in the Willamette Valley farmland, we are surrounded by rigs. These are vehicles that haul things, that live on vineyards, that have extra wheels, and beam headlights in others’ back windows. As I waited, the rumble of the diesel engine droned over the hum of my little German turbo-charged sport hatch. It’s a rumble that made the barista yell repeatedly through the speaker. It cracked me up. Just a little.
There wasn’t anything really noteworthy about today’s cup of goodwill. It was just another $2.20 day in the attempt to bring Fully Caffeinated Generosity and Hope into my little world. On this glorious 9th day of Christmas.
