Cup 16

Cup 16Today’s Cup 16 was attempted at Starbucks, zip code 97071. Given that it was the weekend, and I had plenty of time on my hands, I decided to forgo the typical drive-thru routine and go into the coffee shop. This local Starbucks was full, and the drive-thru was packed, so today’s mission of goodwill seemed like a sure thing. I was certain that I could find a patron just waiting for a free cup of kindness. A gift of hot coffee. Well, not so.

The barista behind the espresso machine was taking his time, chatting with customers and appeared to enjoy pulling one shot after another. As I waited, I just knew someone was bound to show up. I waited. And waited. And waited.

Finally, my coffee arrived on the counter. The barista yelled: “One decaf soy latte.” As I grabbed my coffee off the bar and walked away, I had to chuckle just a little bit. Instead of thinking of today as a flubbed attempt at Fully Caffeinated Generosity and Kindness, I considered it a lesson learned. An opportunity to laugh a little.  Today’s Cup 16 was perhaps the best poorly implemented goodwill coffee gesture ever. As consolation, I did catch a cute photo of the artfully displayed holiday  teas.  Tomorrow, it’s back to the drive-thru. Fully caffeinated, for sure.
