Today’s Cup 12 was purchased at Starbucks, zip code 97301. The drive-thru line was full given that it was day after Christmas, and a weekday. Traffic was flowing and the hustle and bustle abounded. The mom in the Toyota mini-van behind me was no exception. The car was full of kids as the Christmas vacation has barely gotten underway. I imagined she really needed that $4.51 transaction. A Venti holiday latte with a few fancy extra flavors.
As I pulled forward in line, the young enthusiastic barista greeted me with a smile. I paid for my soy latte, and then asked him to ring up the minivan’s order behind me. He quickly replied, with an “Awesome. Let’s see if we can keep it going today!” I had to chuckle to myself at his teenage ability to take the ubiquitous awesome and punctuate the air with a four-syllable holler into the form of aw-uh-suh-um, raucously belted out into the drive-thru window. It was a great transaction. Once again, Fully Caffeinated Generosity and Kindness. I imagine that busy minivan mom really needed it. Like a double shot of espresso.
