Cup 5

Cup 5Cup 5 was purchased at Starbucks, zip code 97303. As I rolled into the drive-thru  this evening, I was a bit unprepared for the simple challenge posed by that $2.49 coffee transaction. Despite feeling fully equipped to execute this blog-based venture of purchasing coffee for strangers for a year, I never imagined the process might require strategy. I mean, I strategize at work, not in my coffee buying. Boy, was I wrong!

After a long day of work, I made my way to a familiar Starbucks and ordered the usual soy latte. Since my local store is typically busy, I never considered that I might struggle to “find” someone to receive a free coffee gift. As  I began to pay for my latte, I realized there wasn’t an order pending in my rear view mirror. I then fumbled a bit, pulled out a $10 bill and asked the barista to pay for the orders behind me, later. He kindly smiled and said: “Oh, you mean the person behind you?” I quickly glanced back and breathed a sigh of relief. My unsuspecting patron arrived in a sedan behind me. “Yep!” I replied. It was all good.. Another coffee mission accomplished. My hot, soy latte never tasted so good.
