Welcome to Cup 4, purchased at Starbucks, zip code 97071. The weather was stormy, with falling snowy sleet, typical of December in the Pacific Northwest, US. The cold, wet, chill inspired a decision to stay firmly planted in the heated leather seat of my Volkswagen GTI. This morning’s Fully Caffeinated Generosity and Hope was let loose into the coffee universe via the drive-thru.
I ordered my tall soy latte and then paid for the car behind me. As the barista rang up the stranger’s coffee purchase, totaling $2.27, I wanted to hop out of the car and jokingly shout at the guy in the white Toyota. I pictured myself speaking into the driver’s side window: “Hey dude, I just got your coffee…you should’ve ordered the Venti Caramel Macchiato or a pound of coffee beans!” Let’s hope he enjoyed that small brewed cup. Bargain coffee price tag, I say. But goodwill and kindness all the same.
